Modeling and Simulation

C2S2 develops and executes full range, constructive, web-based Modeling and Simulation (M&S) systems to support preparation and conduct exercises within realistic environments. Our M&S systems simulate real-world situational-awareness systems for realistic and transparent training and decision making providing control and coordination training without the expense of deploying real world resources.

Our M&S systems full supports tactical exercises, emergency-management, disaster-relief, and continuity of operations (COOP) training for our government and civilian customers.

Key Modeling and Simulation Programs include:

Simulation Training
C2S2 developed the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Warfare Simulation System (MTWS),  the Marine Corps’ only comprehensive level simulation system designed to support training of commanders and their staffs during exercises involving live and simulated land, air, and maritime forces at all operational command levels. MTWS can be used as a multi-sided war game, including red, blue, civilian, and non-aligned sides. MTWS incorporates a full spectrum of combat models including: Ground Combat, Air Operations, Fire Support, Maritime Operations, Combat Engineering, Intelligence, Logistics, and Nuclear, Biological and Chemical.

C2S2 employs a civilian-oriented version of MTWS and provides a web-based front end to bring the power of simulation to emergency management and disaster preparedness communities. This system supports staff-level command, control, and coordination training without the expense of deploying real-world resources.

  • System simulates real-world situational-awareness systems for realistic and transparent training
  • Seamlessly and simultaneously simulates operations in the ground, air, and maritime domains
  • Fully supports emergency-management, disaster-relief, and continuity of operations (COOP) training
  • Replicates movement, detection, construction, destruction, and consumption
  • Provides integrated exercise-control
  • Staff makes decisions as if the scenario were real

Simulation Models include: Emergency Management; Chemical, Biological; Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN); Disaster Relief; Continuity of Operations; Natural Disaster Resource Management; Foreign Humanitarian Assistance; Logistics; Intelligence; Weather; Topography; Engineering; Ground Conflict; Weapon Effects; Air, Maritime, and Ship-to-Shore Operations; Disaster Effects; and Damage and Casualty Assessment.

Air Traffic Control Ground and Tower
For the FAA, C2S2 performs Modeling and Simulation of new airport control tower environments to determine the best site for the tower to maximize visibility of the dynamics on the ground and in the air adjacent to the control tower.

Wargaming
C2S2 provides war game execution support by providing realistic scenario design; execution facilitation including U.S., joint, and coalition doctrine and tactics; opposing force (OPFOR); subordinate forces and game direction, model and database validation and integration; system functional and integrated testing, problem definition and tracking; system hardware and software engineering integration; exercise design, analysis and testing of scenarios, database management; AAR support; and training in all aspects of the system. C2S2 provides limited courseware instruction on the simulations prior to execution.

C2S2 is well known for their pioneering of distributed war gaming, and has remained technical and operational leaders within the distributed war gaming capability. C2S2 utilizes the Enhanced Naval Warfare Gaming System (ENWGS), Joint Semi-Automated Forces-Navy Training Baseline (JSAF) and the C2S2-developed Marine Air Ground Task Force Tactical Warfare Simulation (MTWS), integrated with real-world C5I systems, to support training curriculum and pre-deployment work-up training for the Marine and Navy forces preparing for routine or contingency operations. Specifically, the C2S2 SMEs are responsible for the creation and execution of complex and realistic war game scenarios for intermediate and advanced tactical training of the U.S. Pacific Fleet's deploying Strike Groups.
